Outstanding Scientist Shri Pradip Mukherjee is the new Chief Executive of BRIT. He assumed charge on August 1 2019.
Shri Pradip Mukherjee, a Mechanical Engineer, graduated from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), West Bengal, formerly known as Bengal Engineering College; in 1987. He joined Reactor Projects Group of BARC after completion of one year orientation course in 31st batch of BARC training school in 1988.
During the first two decades of his career, he worked in the design, construction and commissioning of Propulsion Reactor at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. After successful commissioning of the plant, he worked as the Project Manager of Apsara-U Reactor in Reactor Group, BARC since year 2008.
APSARA-U Reactor was built under his leadership and the reactor was made critical within 44 months from its First Pour of Concrete. In 2017 he assumed charge as the Head, Research Reactor Design and Projects Division, BARC . He also worked as Independent Section Head for Accelerator Driven Subcritical System Target Development Section (ATDS) as well as Deputy CE, BRIT.
As Head RRDPD, apart from constructing Apsara-U Reactor, he lead the team of engineers responsible for the design of a High Flux Research Reactor, being constructed at Vizag, Andra Pradesh and also the team for design and construction of a corrosion loop in the JHR reactor in France.
As Head ATDS he was involved in the design of the Target for the Accelerator driven Subcritical system to utilize the spallation neutron produced by the bombardment of proton beam on the Lead Bismuth Eutectic target.
He served as a member of Management Advisory Committee (MAC) of ITER program an International collaboration on Fusion Technology being constructed in Cadarache, France.
