Dr. A. K. Kohli did his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi University in the year 1974. He joined Reactor Engineering Division, BARC after graduating from BARC Training School. He did M. Tech in Design of Mechanical Equipment and Ph. D. on Tribology from IIT, Delhi.
He was involved in indigenous development of various components and sub-systems of refueling equipment for PHWRs & PFBR. He served as Head, PFBR Fuel Handling & Shipping Cask Group in Refueling Technology Division. He has contributed much in the field of tribological studies on radiation resistant solid lubricants and has many national and international scientific papers to his credit. In 1996 he became Engineer-in-Charge, Consultancy Services & Mechanical Technologies of Technology Transfer and Collaboration Division of BARC before moving to Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology (BRIT) in 2001.
In BRIT as Senior General Manager - Engg. Design, QA & Customer Support he undertook design & development of various radiation technology equipment, innovative irradiators & radioactive material transport flasks. He has been instrumental in bringing up of large number of industrial scale radiation processing plants in the private sector in India. His sustained efforts have resulted in the introduction of new products suitable for industrial irradiators in the country. He has participated in various IAEA assignments on safety, security and management of radiation sources. He has comprehensive knowledge of radiation & radioisotope technologies and has taken several new initiatives to enhance the performance of BRIT.
Dr. A.K. Kohli became Chief Executive of BRIT on January 1 2006.
He is recipient of Indian Nuclear Society’s Outstanding Service Award-2009 for his contributions in the field of 'Raadiation & Radioisotope Related Applications'.
He is Member, Board of Strategic Studies of Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. He is also Visiting Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Kalasalingam University.
Dr. Kohli is currently the Chief Executive, BRIT and the President of The National Association for Applications of Radiation & Radioisotopes in Industry.
Under his able leadership BRIT Bagged the Industrial Excellence Award for the year 2012 from Indian Nuclear Society at a function held in December 2013.
